serendip sanctuary

Is it winter or spring? 13 and sunny felt like 16.
Driving through Geelong to Eastern Beach with the ol’ wireless tuned
into some AM radio station where two old ducks were waffling on about
how to get stains out of your jocks reminded me of when I just got my
licence....fast forward 23 years and im cruising down the same
road in the same Holden.
It is not often I take the Monaro out by myself without the kids or
missus so the memories did flood back.
I met up with the others at Eastern Beach and seeing 15 Holdens, with 3
being hopefully new members, sitting along the esplanade looked the
goods – even the old lady who parked in the middle of all the cars in
the 1990 sunburnt old Ford Falcon was impressed as she walked off on her
Saturday morning stroll.
From there, we headed to the Corio truck stop to pick up another 3
members, through Lara and into Serendip Sanctuary.
If you have not been there before I highly recommend heading out. It is
a great place with walks through native wetlands and native wildlife
habitats, bird sanctuaries and the like. And the best bit? It was all
for free!
Brett and Ian arked up the BBQs – yes, we have a new BBQ that sits to
the side so the boys can cook up everything at once – and cooked snags,
hamburgers, dim sims and hash browns, with salads from a few members a
nice touch.
You know when the food is good when the only thing you can hear from
40-odd people is silence.
Three huge geese came in and the kids went nuts chasing them and feeding
them leftovers. That is until Shirley bought out a huge box of lolly
pops.
After a look at the cars we headed off for a walk around the park. I
left the camera in charge of my daughter and let her snap away.
Thanks to Brett for bringing along the club ute and trailer and
approaching Tasman meats so they can do a bit of a deal towards the
meat.
Thanks all for coming. It was a big turnout, nice weather and great
company… and, if you were wondering how to get stains out of your jocks
try vinegar baking powder and a bit of elbow grease!
