Geelong Holden Day 2012
The Geelong Holden Day for 2012 was a wet affair, but that didn't stop enthusiasts from all over the state (and interstate!) from joining in the fun.
The professionals forecast rain, but what would they know, and since when can you EVER predict the weather in Southern Victoria? Plus, with the amount of work already gone into preparations for the event and with entrants travelling in classic vehicles from Sydney and Adelaide for our day, the show must go on and that it did.
With gloomy skies threatening rain, at one stage the weather was starting to look promising so at 7:30am sharp the entrant gates opened and over the next three hours 350+ vehicles including 197 to be judged, commenced filing into the arena. The old saying ?If you build it they will come? could not have been more correct as the day was well underway. Pinky was broadcasting, Fletch from Classic Restos was making his television show, The trade sites and SES were all doing their business and there were well over 5000 people in attendance looking at beautiful vehicles and sampling what we had to offer.
Keeping a keen eye on the weather map it was decided to get judging underway in the hope of beating the approaching rain. And rain it did. At approximately 12:30pm Mother Nature had her way with us and the predicted rain started falling but unexpectedly this didn't deter many. A few decided that they had had enough and decided to leave but the remainder stayed. The trophy presentation got underway slightly early at about 1:00pm and once complete, the remaining diehards packed up and headed home, wet, but happy and in good spirits after a great day.
The 2012 Geelong All Holden Day was indeed a huge success and with the support of all who attended, a cheque to the amount of $3000 was able to be presented to the local charity "Our Women, Our Children" to aid in purchase with much needed medical equipment.
So on behalf of the Committee and Members of the FX-HZ Holden Car Club of Geelong, I as the President would like to personally thank all, entrants and attending public that braved the elements, dragged their loved vehicles in dismal conditions to our event to assist in our support of local charities as without this dedication car shows such as ours would rapidly cease to exist.
Saturday the 03rd of March 2012 just proves to many that these vehicles are built by their owners to be driven, not hidden.......... Kev Hooper.
