Well the Geelong Holden Day is over for another
year. It started out great, the weather was fine and there was not a
cloud in the sky. There were a lot of cars, being our first year at
the race course it took a bit to get organised to put everyone in
but we eventually got there.
The car attendance was greatly improved, not that it was bad
in previous years, just that this year was better. The SES had two
cars to demonstrate on this year, a Ford and a Mitsubishi (kindly
donated by none other than Steve and Lynda from Premwood Wreckers).
The Jaws of Life demonstrations were fantastic and very busy. Fletch
had a great time running around interviewing and no doubt being
harassed by the public. We had the newly formed www.stato.com.au
club with about 30 cars, well done guys. The Ballarat Early Holden
Club came in again and assisted with judging and helping on the
gates, which is greatly appreciated. We could not do it with out
their assistance. Every one was having a great day and all was going
smoothly when the higher authorities decided that we needed a small
drink and shared some water with us in the form of a bit of a
thunder storm. This is the point where we all tried to rush around
to get the presentations done as quickly as possible. The band were
worried about the rain and packed up their equipment. Thank god
Pinky was there with his PA system and the presentations got
underway. It was great to see a sea of umbrellas hanging around for
the presentations. Afterwards, we got to relax a little and reflect
on the day. All in all it was a fantastic event with better
attendance both in cars and public entry and we looked back at the
day and still found ways to improve.
As president of the Geelong FX – HZ Holden Car Club
Inc. I could not have been more proud of the way the day went and the
effort put in by all and sundry on the day and in the lead up.
