Greg &
Judy's HQ Premier
Car:
1973 HQ Premier Wagon Owners: Greg Trigg
& Judy Miller 5 litre 308 V8, Aussie 4 speed, air conditioned, power steering
We
first became aware of our HQ being for sale late last year. Some people
that we know approached Judy, (as they knew we were associated with the
club), and asked if she knew of anybody that would be interested in
buying the car from them. They wanted the car to go to someone that
would appreciate it as it held special memories for them. Judy arranged
for a photo of the car with some details to be sent to us so we could
post it on our club notice board. Judy, having seen the car prior told
them that she knew I would be interested. How right she was. When she
came home and told me about the car coming up for sale it sounded great
but it would mean our HR would have to go (I was not so sure about
that).

A week
or so later we received the photo and details for the Prem; we both
loved it and decided that we would talk to the owners about us buying
the car. They readily agreed and after looking at the car, we committed
to buy it.
The
problem of selling the HR was resolved as Judy’s son bought the car from
us so it still remains in the family.
We
picked up the Prem in late January and the very next day took it on its
first club run to Colac. It was magic! The car ran beautifully and
cruised on the highway superbly.
Since
having the car we have purchased a “donor car”. I have taken the diff
and gearbox out and put them into our car which makes it even better on
the highway and also have now got 4 perfect doors to replace ours as
they have the obligatory HQ rust in them. The doors will be painted and
fitted to the car later this year as well as having some other minor
rust repaired.
The
interior is not perfect but it is in excellent condition and it is a
credit to all who have owned it, it is comfortable even by today’s
standards. The 308 motor has done 86,000 K’s since a rebuild and with
its twin exhaust system sounds great and nearly all of the front and
rear end suspension components have been recently replaced. I am
planning to have the car 100% complete by the end of the year.
The HQ
holds a special place in my heart as my father brought one brand new in
December 1971, it was a Kingswood Sedan and cost $3,180.00 on the road.
In comparison our 1973 Premier Wagon cost the original owner in Brighton
$5,168.00 on the road.
