Being
in a club is fantastic. If i wasn't in the Geelong FX-HZ Holden Car
Club I would not have had the Holden HT Wagon ready for the Bendigo
Holden Day.
The amount of help from different members over the past two months has
been priceless - thanks Rob for letting me use your shed, hoist and
tools. Doing it all in the back yard of my house in the rain was not
the best.
I spent until 9.30pm the night before chasing a short in the wiring
but when I went to start the old girl at 6am the battery decided it
wanted to sleep.
So, with little time to spare I did what any man would do - pinched
the battery out of the better half's Magna.
Meeting at 7am on a Sunday outside Barwon Prison was a tad early but
necessary when going to Bendigo. With 12 cars in line we took off on
the two-and-a-half hour trip.
It ?twas another great day, about 19C, and we had a great convoy of
Holdens, Toranas and Monaros etc running through Bacchus Marsh,
Gisborne and onto the Calder Highway. Watching a pack of great cars
ripping down the highway at 110km/h was a sight to see.
We arrived about 9am and headed into our designated parking area with
the club Ute BBQ trailer and tent set.
Brett and Ian fired up the bacon and eggs and the coffee was handed
around.
The mobile rang at 11am. The missus called to say her car won't start.
Hmmm, I wonder why? So I told her to take the cough (Ford) cough and I
would look at it (put the battery back in) when I got home.
Lots of very nice Holdens came out to play and as the day heated up
the jumpers came off (we even had a member in shorts!) . The BBQ was
fired up again about midday and snags, hamburgers, dimmies and hash
browns re-fuelled the body for another lap around the display areas .
During the day Kevin Hooper won second place in his modified EH and
Michael Ford got second in his original HR.
About 2.30pm my back started to pack it in and so we took off back
home with a few other Geelong members in tow.
