Annual Peninsula Run 2011
Dad
is driving down the road in a 2007 Holden Barina with three
children squashed in the back seat.
“Hey kids, check this out,” he says as a line of 20 old Holden's cruise
past in the opposite direction.
Two kids look back down at their iPhones. But the other takes note of
the convoy’s chrome, shiny paint and deep throaty burbles: “Wow dad,
what was the dark blue one with the black stripes?’’ he asks.
“That is a HQ GTS – sounds like a 253,” dad said as he started to
explain about life back in the 1970s and how he got his license. “My
first car was exactly that one.”
I would imagine that is all it takes to keep these old cars going into
the future and it’s great that our members take the time to pull their
Holden's out of the shed and do a run like this one.
We started at Tasman Meats in Newcomb and had a nice cruise around the
coast and Barwon Heads, stopping at Ocean Grove , through Point
Lonsdale and into Queenscliff.
From there we headed around to St Leonards, around through Indented
Heads and into Portarlington were we set up the BBQ trailer and, to
the delight of my poor starving kids, cooked up a storm.
You can’t beat great company, great Holden's and a great feed on a lazy
Sunday.
Cheers,
Blissy
